About

Challenge the Wight returns for 2017 on Saturday 24th June

Challenge the Wight, a unique overnight challenge to traverse the Isle of Wight’s 26 latitudinal miles between the eastern and western furthermost points.  Either challenging themselves to a nighttime cross country marathon or taking on the challenge at a more leisurely pace, runners and walkers alike set off shortly after dusk taking a defined course following many well established trails across the central spine of the Island’s downlands.

Inaugural Challenge the Wight was part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2014 when Challenge & Adventure and a host of supporters trekked across the Isle of Wight to raise funds to help disadvantaged and challenging young people on the Island.  After a repeat in 2015 and 2016, albeit reversing the route better use of the rising sunlight in the later stages, the event is back again.

This year the event between The Needles and Yaverland Bay will be bigger than ever and include family ‘child friendly’ challenge (4 mile) and half challenge (13 mile) courses.

Challenge the Wight Junior is a family ‘child friendly’ challenge which will take start at The Needles and walk the first 4 miles to Freshwater Bay

We’re also welcoming Scouts, Guides, Cadets, youth groups and any other youth organisations to join in a TransWight challenge to find a champion youth team for the full 26.5mile and 12 mile courses
